Orientation Training for imbibing National Service Volunteers in fisheries
under Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Kolkata organised at ICAR-CIFRI,
Barrackpore
A 8-days orientation training programme for 425 nos National Service Volunteers (NSV) under
Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), Kolkata Chapter has been conducted at ICAR-CIFRI,
Barrackpore during 16-27 Nov, 2018 in working days of the Institute. While inaugurating the
program, Dr. B.K Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI on Nov 16, 2018, urged the youths to come
forward for nation building for a new India through their skill strengthening and capacity
building after gaining knowledge by attending such training program. Youths are the lifeline of
vibrant India and the proactive skilled youths in different sphere of activities will be the
backbone of future India, Dr Das reminded. The trainees were exposed to different schemes of
Govt of India as well as Line Departments of the respective States in the field of Fisheries sector
so that these would be of immense help for them for getting/opting funds for their skilled
activities. The trainees were exposed to different aspects of fisheries and aquaculture through
hands on training including cage and pen culture in derelict water bodies, ornamental fish
production, small indigenous fish species and their food values and culture system, basic aspects
of pond management and fish production, opening of Aquashop in rural areas through funding
from Govt. Institutions including development of kiosks for fish selling etc. ICAR-CIFRI also
celebrating ‘Anti Microbial Resistant Week’ (AMR) during the training period and the need of
AMR in fish health management has been elaborated to the trainees by Dr A. K. Sahoo,
Scientist, REF Division of the Institute. The training need for retaining youths in fisheries sector
has been elaborated to the trainees. NYKS has agreed to have a separate program for women
participants through active training support from CIFRI in future. Mr. Nabin Naik, Director,
NYKS, Kolkata has expressed his satisfaction over the training schedules/modules of CIFRI and
the way program has been conducted at the Institute. He committed that, in future such training
programs with more number of trainees would be organized at CIFRI for better skill support for
the youths. The training program was coordinated by Dr. A. K. Das, In-charge, Extension &
Training Cell.
