Awareness programme Fisheries Management in Inland Open Waters Under TSP

Regional research centre of ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (RRC of ICAR-CIFRI) has organised an awareness programme on “Fisheries Management in Inland Open waters” for tribal fishermen of Movi and Boridra village of Narmada district at Karjan Reservoir on 29 September 2018. Seventy five tribal fishermen attended the programme. Fishermen from village Movi and Boridra has a fishermen cooperative society and the society members is mainly involved in fishing from the reservoir for livelihood. However, in recent time, fishermen witnessed a decline in fish catch and became concerned about production from reservoir. During the programme, fishermen were made aware about fisheries management in reservoir and cage and pen culture technologies for productivity enhancement. Wakambam Anand Meetei, Scientist, ICAR-CIFRI, Vadodara, enlighten the fishermen about stock enhancement, sustainable fishing practices such as mesh size regulation and following monsoon fishing ban. Dr. S. P. Kamble, Scientist and Officer In-Charge, ICAR- CIFRI, Vadodara, enlighten fishermen about use of technologies such as pen and cage culture for productivity enhancement and their management for production of stocking material for reservoir and table size fish for sustainable livelihood. Mr. H.V. Mehta, Superintendent of Fisheries, Rajpipla (Narmada District) also attended the programme and appraised fishermen about the various Government scheme available for fishermen under TSP by Department of Fisheries, Government of Gujarat. Fishermen actively interacted with the scientists and promised to follow the responsible fisheries management practices for sustainable fisheries in the reservoir. The programme ended with vote of thanks by Rajesh Sah, Technical Officer, ICAR- CIFRI, Vadodara. Active participation of the centre Scientists, Mr. W.A. Meetei, Mr.Vaisakh G., technical assistance from Shri R.K. Sah, J.K. Solanki and assistance of Shri C.D. Parmar and supporting staff has made the programme successful.
