An awareness camp-cum- Scientist-Fisher interaction was conducted at Kalo reservoir in Odisha on 12-02- 2018. Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI advised the fishers on the importance of advanced fingerling stocking in the reservoir for production enhancement. He also recommended them to prepare the nursery, where the fishers can raise the spawn to advanced fingerling before stocking them in the reservoir. Mr. Sashikanta Acharya, Deputy Director of Fisheries, Balasore, Odisha, while interacted with fishers emphasized upon the governance system of the cooperative for day to day activity for the effective working system and better management of the reservoir. Mr. S. K. Ghadei, District Fisheries Officer, Mayurbhanj advised the fishers to avoid catching smaller size carps for better production from the reservoir. Dr. P. K. Parida, Scientist and Nodal officer, TSP and Mr. H. S. Swain, Scientist, ICAR-CIFRI discussed with the fishers about the precautions to be taken during culture based fisheries for enhancing the production. In the meeting, 60 numbers of tribal fishers were present and discussed with the delegates on higher production from the reservoir. Apart from the fishers two entrepreneurs of the Mayurbhanj district and media representatives were also present in the meeting.

Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI distributed 6 nos of coracle to the fishers (which will help them in catching fish and moves at a faster pace than the wooden boat) and 4 units of gill nets to the tribal fishers and also released the fingerlings in the reservoir.
