A five days exposure visit cum training programme to be held during 18-22 nd June 2018 at
ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore on Fisheries management in wetlands of Bihar for the managers
and fishers of Rulhi and Kararia maun has been inaugurated today, June 18, 2018 by Director
Dr. B.K.Das. The training programme being organised by the Institute has been sponsored by
NFDB under Central Sector Scheme on Blue revolution. The training has been attended by
28 fishers from Kararia and Rulhi wetland in East Champaran (Mothihari) district of Bihar.
Mr. Ganesh Chandra, Co-cordinator of the training programme welcomed all the participants
and briefed about the objectives of the projects and purpose of this programme. The projects
are being implemented by ICAR-CIFRI at four mauns (Majharia, Kararia, Sirsa,and Rulhi )
in East Champaran district of Bihar. In the inaugural session Director interacted and
discussed with the trainees about the various issues in wetland fisheries and how the
technological interventions from ICAR-CIFRI can help to improve fisheries development and
their livelihood improvement. Dr. V. R. Suresh, HOD, Riverine Ecology & Fisheries
Division and Dr. B.P. Mohanty, HOD, Fishery Resource & Environment Management
Division in their introductory remarks indicated about the immense production potential of
wetland resources of Bihar and how the fish production can be improved with the adequate
technological interventions and capacity building. The fishers will be trained on various
aspects of Wetland Fisheries Management including pen and cage culture practices, feeding
protocols, fish disease management, fisheries governance etc. Two field visits will also be
arranged for the participants to get an exposure and knowledge about wetland fisheries
management and marketing systems. The programme was also attended by all project Co-
PI’s, Divisional Scientists and Project field assistants. Dr. M. A. Hassan, Coordinator of the
training programme proposed the vote of thanks.
